Tankless On-demand System

I just bought a single-family house with a very old and inefficient heat and hot water system. I plan on replacing it before the winter and have been looking at all the new options out there. Everyone I talk to tells me I should consider a “Tankless On-demand System” that heats the house and supplies hot water as well. What can you tell me about this type of system and is it a good investment for the cost?

Reglazed tub issues

I just had my bathroom remodeled and thought I could save a few dollars and just have the tub reglazed. I was not happy with the outcome do to the fact that in less than a week I’ve noticed the tub peeling in certain places and there appears to be a leak. At first the sub-contractor that did the job said he would come back and do it over but it’s been over a week and I have yet to hear back from him. He hasn’t returned my calls and I’m not hopeful that he’ll be back. What do you think I should do at this point?

On-demand tank-less water heater in the apartment

The 40 gallon gas fired hot water heater in my condo is on its last leg and I am thinking of replacing it with an on-demand tank-less water heater. I would also like to move the unit from the basement into my condo in a second floor closet.I do have a question however. Do I need to install a safe waste pan under this type of unit?

Mechanical Plumbing Air Admittance Vent

I have a Split Entry home with a laundry room attached to the master bath. My plan is to renovate and enlarge the master bath with a walk in shower and a larger spa type tub. I plan on moving the laundry room to the lower level and have a question about the placement of the washer hookup.I know plumbing runs under one room to the room above, so here is my question. Can I use a Mechanical Plumbing Air Admittance Vent on the washing machine when it is moved to the lower level? I googled air vents and saw them on line.

Ghost flushing

Sometimes at night when my house is quiet and I’m the only one home, I hear water running. Then a few minutes later and for no reason my toilet flushes. Can you tell me why this is happening and is there a way to stop it?

Hot Water Recirculation Pumps

Lately I have been hearing a lot about “Hot Water Recirculation Pumps” and I think I might be a candidate for one but at this point. My house has a 32” x 52” foundation and the hot water heater is in the basement at one end of the house directly under a master suite with toilet, vanity sink, bath and a washer and dryer. I get hot water there quickly, however.....

Can I switch to propane?

I do not live in one of the towns affected by recent gas leaks and explosions, thank goodness. But hearing that some home owners will not have gas restored for months has me thinking about a few things. I have also heard a few stories about people with gas appliances and heating systems changing over to propane in case

Frost-free hose bib for outdoor leaks

My outdoor hose spigot has been leaking all summer. Not only has my water bill been astronomical, but the water is causing a hole in the lawn and a stain on the side of my home. To make matters worse I went in my finished basement to shut the water off for the season and noticed the leak was inside as well and my drywall is moldy. What are your recommendations for replacement, I have heard about a frost-free option is it worth the extra money?
